Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line 12/29/18
Author: OCtrainguy

On December 29th, I had time to get trackside.  My original plan was to be in Manville, NJ on the NS Lehigh Line to catch the 24Z with the Conrail heritage engine on it,  That train passed through before I got up there, so I headed to Piscataway on the Shared Assets Lehigh Line.  The two main reasons for that decision was that there was a CSX train coming up the Trenton Line and NS 62V was working in Bridgewater, and I'd miss both if I stayed in Manville.  I ended up seeing 11 trains in six hours, with some foreign power mixed in.  Here are some photos and two videos (at the end) of the trains that day.

1.  NS 20E eastbound with a rebuilt SD90MAC leading
2.  NS 212 eastbound with a SD80MAC, 7228 leading.  No complaints from me on this one!
3.  NS 211 westbound with a AC Gevo leading a pair of UP engines.  The conductor had given a wave to a MOW employee at the crossing and the railfans there.

More to follow..

Continuing the photos...

4.  A second eastbound NS 62V of the morning, this one with the bar code engine (1111) trailing
5.  CSX Q032 eastbound with a single GEVO up front
6.  And a rear GEVO as a DPU

A few more left.

Continuing the photos..

7.  CSX Q409 westbound with a ES44AH leading a BNSF engine and a switcher
8.  The swticher on the Q409
9.  There were some interesting freight cars on the Q409, but this one was the best

Two videos to follow..

Great series of photos OC.
The depressed center flat car belongs to Kasgro Rail Corporation (KRL) from New Castle PA.  They are specialists in high and wide loads and, I understand, even build some of their special cars.  I think they also have Schnabel cars in their collection of rolling stock.  I think there are about four or six of their KRL cabooses (bay window and wide vision cupola style) they use for rider cars to accompany certain loads.

Great pics - thanks.  Where exactly were you?  I'm in Union County so not too far away.

I was at Prospect Avenue.  Some people do also go to the New Market Road crossing.  There are also railfans who use the NJT Union Station as well, if you're looking for something close by.

Good series of images.

I hear Ziegler's is no more. No tresspassing and private property signs up.
