Good Morning:

I read once there is a Linwood, NC to Atlanta, GA pool for certain intermodal trains. Does that pool exist? If so, what trains are in it and what is the typical run time? Lastly, where are the crews based at?

yes there is a pool.  The trains in it are 211-212, 203-204, and 213-214.  Travel time depends on traffic and meets on the road, plus congestion at Inman Yard, plus mechanical and PTC issues.  On a great day it might be  9 hours. On a rough day you get recrewed.  The North Charlotte District crews work out of Linwood and are called LA crews.  The South Charlotte District crews work out of Inman and are called AL crews.

If I understand correctly, it has crews based at both Inman and Atlanta?

Also, are the crews at Linwood, NC able to bid on jobs to Manassas, VA? What other pools can the Atlanta Crews work?

Yes, The South Charlotte District crews in the AL/LA intermodal pool are home terminaled at Inman.  The North Chatlotte District intermodal pool crews are home terminaled for those runs at Linwood, but their normal home terminal is Greenville  Crew disricts on the former SR Eastern Lines are very small by industry standards. South Charlotte has the Atlanta-Greenville mainline portion.  North Charlotte is Greenville-Spencer. At one time the North Charlotte District shared interdivisional runs with the Danville District. The road-railer ID run was Greenville-Lynchburg, and the short lived passenger ID run was Charlotte-Raleigh.
