LRS Railroad
Founded in 1909, the Laurinburg and Southern Railroad is a 28 mile short-line railroad that runs from Raeford to Laurinburg, North Carolina. The railroad has been owned by Gulf & Ohio Railways since 1998.Interchanging with CSX, the LRS moves 5,800 cars annually utilizing three locomotives. Shipments include glass and chemicals.
“This railroad is a piece of living history. In an age of fast-paced change in the railroad industry— and in our society in general— historic survivors like the Laurinburg & Southern are rare. They offer a bridge between railroading’s community-driven past and its efficiency driven present.” - Author & Historian Tony Reevy
