CSX A794 is the daily local that runs from Rice Yard (Waycross, Georgia) to Busch Yard (Jacksonville, Florida) and back.  It carries interchange traffic for the First Coast Railroad and Saint Marys Railroad located on the former SAL mainline between Yulee, Florida and Kingsland, Georgia.  The Saint Marys Railroad receives cars from the First Coast Railroad and serves the Kings Bay Naval Base which is a submarine base in Kingsland, Georgia. Back in the days when CSX handled the entire route the local was nicknamed the "Fernandina Rocket" because it carried the rocket boosters for the Trident missiles used on the Navy submarines.

Yesterday, A794 was carrying one of these specially-built, 6-axle rocket booster cars (DODX #40003).  Train was filmed at Callhan, Florida and again at Folkston, Georgia.

I remember when they were carried in air conditioned box cars.

You may be thinking of the fuel for these boosters.  Solid rocket fuel is still carried in DODX refrigerated box cars.  I have seen these on trains in this area quite a few times.  Here is one of them I caught on video...

Nice video, haven’t seen the missle car before so that was a neat find.

Route of the Rocket.  That 2nd train in the video was moving smartly.  You guys still have lots of boxcars in the manifest.
