Eastern Railroad Discussion > Monday on The Pittsburgh Line - Thoroughbreds in The Snow

With a friend in from the west, we spent the day on Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line west of Altoona.  A heavy blanket of snow from the several previous days made for great photography oppurtunites, and the lack of wind made for a pleasnt day despite the below-freezing temps.  

1: Amtrak 04T kicks up snow as they roll upgrade on Track 2.
2: A Y90 coal train bound for Baltimore lumbers up the grade on Track 1 led by two GE's.
3: 20W makes better time upgrade on 2 led by a NS SD70M-2 that may not be long for the world.

4: NS 54K, a grainer bound for the R.J. Corman at Cresson rolls under the PRR PL signals led by a SD80MAC
5: 54K's helpers lean into the curve making their final push towards summit.
6: An eastbound manifest is making the grade led by another ubiquitous NS GE.

7: A Sperry Railcar rests at Cresson.  
8: A 593 rushes empties west for another load of coal.
9: Slabs roll west as 60N has crested the summit.

10: The day finishes with a somewhat frigid image of tanks from a westbound oil train kicking up the powdered snow.

That 136 had been testing on the Chicago line in october and december.
