After having been at the Norfolk Southern shops in Altoona for a few years undergoing restoration work the Southern #6901 Crescent is making its way back to the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth Georgia. The unit was reported as being in the consist of NS 361 (CHATTANOOGA, TN - MACON, GA). I originally set up in Austell to capture the moment but the train pulled a draw bar around CP Aragon MP 98.3H so I headed north out of Austell. I ended up at Rockmart Georgia about 15 minutes before it was cleared to head south. 

Perhaps there will be others that will post photo's of this unit as it works its way to the museum in Duluth Georgia. 

#1 & #2 The Southern # 6901 coming and going at Rockmart Georgia.

What work was done on this E-unit at Altoona?

Where New Paint Job?? If NS had engines for few years??

I perused this motor in Duluth GA 22 years ago....and it looks rather the same as it was then. Mechanically is was all there, so I guess getting it running was no more than a matter of fixing whatever got it retired in the first place. But yeah....a fresh paint job couldn't have hurt. At least I think this is the one I saw in Duluth

The original plan, under Wick Moorman, was body work, new paint, alignment control couplers, and 26L, in addition to the work that it ultimately received.  As CEOs change, so do priorities.  NS did actually have alignment control draft gear for it, but it ended up in a locomotive that they smashed up.

It had its trucks rebuilt--new wheels, rebuilt D77 traction motors, ect., all new wiring, new bridges and injectors in both engines.  I think it got a new governor on one or both engines.  Now has the TMV control system like the NS F Units, while retaining the original control stand(it's a museum artifact, after all).  Dynamics work, too. Did not get 26L, or, thankfully, the bastard desktop 30CW that 6900 and 6914 had.  While it still looks a bit bedraggled, it's probably on par mechanically and electrically with '00 and '14, especially if you're not afraid of 24RL.
