Eastern Railroad Discussion > Charlotte, NC and Rocky Mount, NCDate: 02/09/19 05:00 Charlotte, NC and Rocky Mount, NC Author: thegottfather Hi everyone. I’ve done some searching but haven’t seen too much in recent posts. Looking at Flying in to NC in the fall but trying to figure out the best areas to head towards.
What would be worthwhile for traffic between Charlotte and Rocky Mount, NC, if anything? Would I be better off going towards Greenville, SC? Thanks in advance. Posted from iPhone Date: 02/09/19 06:10 Re: Charlotte, NC and Rocky Mount, NC Author: SOUCF25 The NS main between Charlotte and Greensboro is busiest line in the Charlotte area. There are about 30 trains per day on either side of Linwood. CSX between Pembroke and Rocky Mount is the best line around Rocky Mount. I estimate around 20 trains on this line.
On the east-west legs, NS between Greensboro and Selma is going to see around 10 trains per day. I've not kept up with number of trains between Charlotte and Pembroke. My guess is about 10. I'm trying to figure that out. Does it hold true north of Pembroke? Date: 02/09/19 12:26 Re: Charlotte, NC and Rocky Mount, NC Author: Totallamer SpeederDriver Wrote:

Does it hold true > north of Pembroke? Absolutely. H750/751, Q300/301, Q415/416 and F781/782(?) are all trains that originate / terminate at Rocky Mount and head north. I -think- that Q438/439 are Rocky Mount originations/terminations as well. Whereas heading south you've got half as many at best I'd imagine. Q400/401 and Q470/471 I think? There's also Q409/410 which can be seen on both sides, along with Q031/032. If you hang out north of Weldon, NC you'd lose the F781/782 but gain the Q135/136 as well as the occasional grain train. The Rocky Mount/Wilson area is one of the top five locations for my spring roadtrip. I will definitely stay in Rocky Mount or points north should I go that way.

The most heavily trafficed railfan spot on the North End Sub is North Collier. Collier is the yard in Petersburg, VA and the NS crosses underneath right there on the way to Norfolk. Edited 1 time(s). There's 4 of them you won't see even at North Collier however, as the Norfolk-bound trains leave the A-Line at BX, which is just north of North Collier. But other than that yeah, on the North End you'll see... P079/80 P089/90 P091/92 P097/98 P052/53 |
