Eastern Railroad Discussion > Southern Vacation Day 1: C&O GP9 on The Shenandoah ValleyDate: 02/10/19 11:43 Southern Vacation Day 1: C&O GP9 on The Shenandoah Valley Author: Ohiorailfan This past week I took off on a 5 day trip to the South to visit some not so well known Shortlines and to avoid the cold in Ohio. Day 1 started on the Shenadoah Valley in Staunton, VA. The power for the days train was C&O painted GP9 #5940, it was built in 1955 for the C&O and is all original with the exception of the Shenadoah Valley lettering on the side. The day started with them heading up to Weyers Cave to work an industry. They would then go north light power to Harrisonburg and pick up cars from the NS and head back to Weyers Cave and eventually Staunton. After chasing them back south I stopped at the Buckingham Branch and after getting permission to walk around photographed a few engines lying around including C&O SD40 #7534. Enjoy!!

Michael Fair Royal Oak, MI Date: 02/10/19 22:45 Re: Southern Vacation Day 1: C&O GP9 on The Shenandoah Valley Author: CSX602 7534 was repainted by CSX back into original C&O paint scheme (at Huntington) and donated to the C&O Historical Society in 2017. It is on loan/lease to BB but needs traction motor work to get back into regular service.
