Eastern Railroad Discussion > Steam Revenue Freight for Opening Day 2019Date: 02/16/19 18:30 Steam Revenue Freight for Opening Day 2019 Author: PennRailVideos After a few years absense, I've returned to the Strasburg Railroad to revamp a tradition of riding one of the first trains on Opening Day of the season. We rode in style also, aboard the latest passenger car to be restorized, Balitmore & Ohio Parlor Car #118.
Here is the 12pm train making its way up the hill at Cherry Crest Farm with ex-CN 2-6-0 Mogul #89 leading the way. Our added treat for the day was a revenue freight powered soley by #89. Now this may seem like a lot of cars for the small engine, but they are mostly empties, and the railroad is mostly downhill to Leaman Place in Paradise, PA. Here the train slows for the close crossing circuit at Carpenters Crossing. #89 would return with two loaded cars for the East Strasburg Terminal, seen at Esbenshade Road. What a neat way to kick off the season along the Road to Paradise. - Thanks, Adam C. I go there every year and even though I've done it over and over again, it is still a very special place where time has stood still. I highly recommend everyone here on TrainOrders to go there if you have the chance. Strasburg, Pennsylvania in Lancaster County.
