Strasburg Railroad Revenue Freight
Author: Ohiorailfan

Yesterday was opening day for 2019 at Strasburg. I had no plans on going there until I heard about the freight they were to run. So Saturday I took yet another trip(shocking right?). I arrived early enough to see one of the passenger trains that was running at 1pm and then waited for the freight that was to leave at 215pm. I believe normally the railroad runs their freight with their Ex NYC switcher, but it was announced that Saturday's freight would be running with CN 2-6-0 #89. The 89 is a Mogul that was built in 1910 in Kingston, Ontario. The train would head to Leaman place where they switched the interchange with NS for a good hour before heading back towards the yard near the museum. I believe this is the only place in the country where one can see Steam haul revenue freight. Enjoy!

For an amazing perspective, look especially at photos #4 and #11....you'll see very clearly how small this little steamer really is: smaller than a single high-cube box car.

Although the Everett RR has used 2-6-0 #11 for chartered photo freights, the use of the engine for revenue moves has so far been restricted to light switching in Hollidaysburg yard. A few moves with 1-2 cars have been made to the Claysburg line, usually before or after the engine runs its scheduled tourist trains. This has involved cars for the trans load team track next to the Claysburg engine shop. or the brick plant in Sproul.
I was lucky to catch a non-revenue MOW move with #11 on 9/16/2018. The crew took a company flat  car loaded with track materials to the exact end of track in Sproul, I was unable to find out what project this was for.
