Eastern Railroad Discussion > Analyst Tony Hatch's view of the NS Investor DayDate: 03/14/19 15:53 Analyst Tony Hatch's view of the NS Investor Day Author: Lackawanna484 Noted investment analyst Anthony Hatch offers his take on the Norfolk Southern Investor Day two weeks ago. An Investor Day is an opportunity for the corporate management to present its plans face-to-face to the investment community, make its management available for questions and observations, etc. Under regulation FD, that information has to be posted publicly on the company's website.
Mr Hatch is a buy-side analyst. As such, he's not employed by a Merrill Lynch or Goldman Sachs, etc. His role is to develop networks of people "in the know" and offer advice on companies and industries to mutual funds, pension plans, etc. So, his expertise is determining the viability of an industry and the companies in it. And, putting his credibility on the line in his often private assessments to pension plan etc clients. (I added this paragraph since the role of analysts is oten seen here on TrainOrders as cheer leaders for management.)
