Former B&O St. Louis Line
Author: sugarcreek56

The former B&O line to St. Louis was taken out of service several years ago and crossing signals deactivated.  However, over 150 flat cars were still stored on the line in Shattuc and Aviston, so CSX sent #8817 to clear the line while CSX special agents protected the grade crossings.  The locomotive traveled east to Carlyle, IL on Wednesday, March 19, went east on Thursday to Shattuc and returned to Trenton, IL before tieing down, with final return to Rose Lake Yard on Friday the 15th.

Hardly any active online shippers. These days, when there are other ways to run bridge traffic, that spells D-O-O-M-E-D. Even a short line operator needs online shippers to make money.

Glad you were able to document a rare move on a once great line. Rail tops will have an unfamiliar shine for a couple of days anyway. Thanks for sharing.
