Amtrak, DOD, and the SBVR - 07 April 2019
Author: DTWilson

After Breakfast at "CP Roys" ... the local Roy Rodgers fast food joint beside the yard... we have time to catch a couple of train around Cumberland, MD.

1) At Mexico Farms Road we catch P030-07 heading eastbound.

2) As soon as Amtrak has cleared D720-07 heads east. They have 3 cars to set off in Green Spring, WV for the South Branch Valley RR. They will have to do some switching at Green Spring to position the cars for interchange with the SBVR.

3) D720-07 on the "Scale Track" at Green Spring, WV...

Just behind the cars for the SBVR was a string of "colorful" boxcars and a depressed center 8 axle car with reporting marks for DODX....

1) The center of the wye at Green Spring is used by the MoW forces as a storage yard for equipment and materials. D720-07 switching in the background framed by a Under-Cutter machine.

2) D720-07 shoving their set out over the hill at Green Spring to the SBVR Interchange.

3) While the D720 is setting out their cars, we found some the SBVR power at the south end of the small interchange yard.

Thanks Tim for the update on the South Branch Valley.  It's great that they still have those ex-B&O and ex-C&O locomotives that they operate, mostly on their passenger trains but sometimes on their freight trains.

Nice work, Tim.
The "colorful" DODX boxes are a nice catch. Even nicer--they're graffiti-free.

Nice shots, really like the one at Mexico tower....funny thing happened to me there in 1994.  Locked the keys in the trunk of my car.  Luckily the tower was still open then so I had to walk up there and ask the operator if I could use the phone.  He was a really a nice guy, I had a lock smith there in about 20 minutes...
