An Afternoon at Benny
Author: tehachapi-dave

Spent the afternoon on Saturday at Bennington Curve (know as Benny for the interlocking formerly located here) on the rock ledge overlooking the Northfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line.

1: NS 7638 leads 35A with a newly rebuilt SD40-2 and several army loads.
2: NS 3634 leads 60N upgrade on main 2
3: A "four-banger" shoves hard on 60N, as NS 7238 leads 66X down the slide.

4: A pair of SD40E's help hold back 66X as it lumbers downgrade.
5: NS 9902 leads a stacker upgrade on main 3
6: NS 6321 and 6303 shove hard as they near the summit just over a mile ahead.

Tehachapi-TJ Over & Out.

Great shots! Thanks for sharing. Is NS 60N the unit steel slab train? It's nice to see they replaced those old rough looking gondola cars;

Slab service is very rough on gons, that's why you use your oldest serviceable cars.  The new cars look nice for picture, but they will get beat fast, in slab service.  Worked in the Metals Unit for Conrail.

Thanks for the info; Must've been neat to see that train. The Altoona area is still a great place for EMD run 8 therapy!

Awesome pics. Did you have any trouble? I’ve heard NS patrols that area heavy. How did you access that spot?

Doesn't the Penn Game Land 198 abut NS right of way at Benny? And the cemetery road along the North side has been in use since the 1800s.

Trespassing on NS property is illegal, but there are state owned views, too.
