This evening CN A432 and a grain empty met at Carbondale, IL. A432 had a NS DC to AC conversion second.

1-2. CN 2841 and NS 4179 with SB A432
3. CN 2942 on NB grain empty

Chased the train 16 miles south to Cobden, to catch it on the hill.

4-5. A432 on Cobden Hill
6. NS 4179. The paint was afwfuly shiny. It had only been built 2 months before...

Nice elight at Cobden.

Whenever I see Cobden mentioned I remember 1964.

Curious, 1964?

Whenever I go to Cobden I think of December 1973, when a northbound and southbound ICG had a nasty head-on collision here at this exact spot. One of the trains involved had a string of loaded coal hoppers. In fact if you look at the ground hard enough you can still find pieces of coal embedded in the ground. Pretty interesting.

I knew this one on account of working on US 51 south of Carbondale way back at the start of my career.
