Eastern Railroad Discussion > A Rail Fans Favorite Heritage UnitDate: 05/13/19 04:59 A Rail Fans Favorite Heritage Unit Author: NSSpike NS Alabama East End District
Due to the derailment of an east bound loaded coal train east of Huntsville Alabama earlier in the week on the Memphis East District several detours of Memphis traffic made the run on the Alabama East End district Via Birmingham. #1. A quick trip from the house up to Temple netted one of the detoured trains NS 23N (ATLANTA, GA – MEMPHIS, TN) west bound digging into the curve on the main at CP Taylor MP 675.5 with an all time railfan favorite NS #8099 Southern unit. #2. Holding the main line at the “People Pleaser” NS 23N waits for Anniston / Bremen Turn to complete their work at the Bremen Storage tracks. Note: the “People Pleaser” is a convenience store on US78 and Florida Ave and is is the name most often used as the stopping point for west bound trains. #3. With A46 having completed their work 23N heads west at CP Bremen in the late afternoon sun. Thanks for stopping by and always be safe when out track side!!! Bill Miller Galt, ON Date: 05/13/19 18:48 Re: A Rail Fans Favorite Heritage Unit Author: PRR_4859 Great shots. Not sure why NS doesn't send more traffic to Memphis that way and avoid the CSXT trackage rights from Chattanooga, TN to Stevenson, AL. If the speeds were raised west of Birmingham, it seems like this route would be faster.
