NS SD70M-2
Author: mopupengineer

Chris's great web page nsdash9 shows the SD70M-2 is one of the first models of units that gets stored.  Are the SD70M-2's that unreliable or is there another reason why they are one of the models that are placed in storage?

Traffic levels, PSR, RRs prefer AC powered locos over DC powered, and age.

And they are next on the list to be converted to AC, if not already started..

The SD70's are currently being converted to AC traction SD70ACC's, but the SD70M-2's are just part of the current "surge fleet" and are stored when not needed.

They are called "thundercabs" (in reference to the noisey ride) and crews tend to dislike them...   Another reason they are unpopular and among the first stored.
