Today, the Decatur & Eastern Illinois RR took a grain extra train east out of the Decatur yard. Pulled by SD-40 WAMX4234 and GP-38 FURX 5576, this was the first trip that the SD-40 has made over the line. It's normally just used for yard work and interchange runs in Decatur. They don't use it on road trains due to a bridge restriction between Paris and Terre Haute.

The two units had 30 empty grain cars in tow.  12 cars were set out at the grain elevator in La Place, IL and the remaining 18 were set out at Pierson, IL. The La Place elevator just began shipping by rail a month or so ago, after re-furbishing their siding (it's been 10+ years since they've used rail service).

2&3. At La Place dropping the cut of 12 cars on the elevator siding

4&5. Pulling out of the elevator siding

Just after these photos, there was a big downpour of rain and hail that hit, so I went home instead of chasing to Pierson.

Thanks for looking,
