Eastern Railroad Discussion > Florida Gulf & Atlantic Operations ?

Anyone know of the planned operations scheme for the new start-up Florida, Gulf, & Atlantic Railroad? Looking for a guide to the road freights or local turns, as well as the train symbols being used.

I see mention of train symbol BT-1 with the Florida Gulf & Atlantic Inaugural Action post. Guessing this is the Baldwin-Tallahassee road freight?

Where are operations based out of?

Have seen mention that 161.1900 is being used for radios.

As with any start-up, I do realize operations are likely not yet settled into a normal pattern.

From various sources, have pieced together part of the locomotive roster as follows:

FURX SD40-2 6248; 6300; 7156; 7181; 7195; 8143; 8159; 8169
FURX GP40-2 4213
FURX GP 38-2 5548; 5571
HLCX GP 38-2 3824; 3865

The FURX SD40-2s are in black paint with white safety stripes.
The 4213 is in former DME/ICE blue/gold paint.
The 5548 and 5571 are formed NS patched out.
The 3824 and 3865 are in red paint with white safety stripes.

Why? I know of a lot of shortlines with all EMD power. You don't see many rebuilt GE's out there because they just don't hold up like EMD's do.

Not just EMD, but pre-1980 EMD. One would think their roster would reflect CSX retirements in the last three years (mechanic familiarity, etc), but not so.

The EMD lease units are probably in far better mechanical condition than retired CSX locomotives that may be newer on paper.

Perhaps....retired locomotives are necessarily stripped of useable parts.....but rent a wrecks while they may be in good overall shape....they are often supplied without radios or telemetry...leaving the renting railroad to install their own equipment on receipt of the leased power. Also, the master controllers may be worn plum out....fleet owners think their rental power gets used mostly in trail where the master controller never gets used, so they don't maintain them.
