Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway
Author: OCtrainguy

A few days ago, I posted a photo of the NS 36T that was photographed in the lower Lehigh Gorge.  Those photos were taken on the caboose of the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway train we rode on June 15th.  Here are some photos and videos from the train ride.

1.  The eleven o'clock train returning to Jim Thorpe, passing the RDC cars that brought people in from Outer Station (Reading) and Port Clinton
2.  The caboose used this day
3.  Leaving the former CNJ station in Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk)

More to follow..

Continuing the photos..

4.  Passing the RDC cars are they are on their layover.
5.  Crossing the Lehigh River for the first time
6.  We've now passed MP 124 (CP Coal) where the two signals were recently (within the past two years) by the R&N.

A few more to follow..

Last of the photos..

7.  Signals for MP 127
8.  View of the tracks, trail and mountains north of the Oxbow Curve
9.  At Old Penn Haven, believe this is a bit south of MP130 and the engine runs around the train for the trip back

Got three short videos to follow.

The first video is leaving Jim Thorpe and passing a pair of R&N engines (SD50s) and extra cars for the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway
The second video is of the train passing Nesquehoning Junction, the shell of PQ tower and crossing the Lehigh River
In the last video, the train is crossing the Lehigh River as we are heading back to Jim Thorpe.  The new bridge construction has been documented by fellow contributor Pattenburg.

We really enjoyed the ride and would definitely recommend it.  Hope you enjoy the photos and videos!

From what I understand, the design was to make a wye with the line to/from Nesquehoning and the tracks in the Lehigh Gorge,  That will enable trains from Port Clinton to Mountain Top to continue their movements without the need to runaround the train in Jim Thorpe.

Neat! It looks like it's gonna be an impressive bridge! Thanks for the info.
