Eastern Railroad Discussion > Fire on CSX bridge over Susquehanna RiverDate: 08/10/19 05:21 Fire on CSX bridge over Susquehanna River Author: JPB Looks like this was a small fire but potentially could have been a disaster for CSX!

Date: 08/10/19 08:49 Re: Fire on CSX bridge over Susquehanna River Author: Tominde Operations were back to normal. Love that picture with the fireboat shooting water. They said a "mini pumper" was first on the scene. I picture an ATV type vehicle. I sre would not want to be the fire fighter who walks out there. My knees get weak just think about that.

Susquehanna Hose Co. of Havre De Grace photos Note: a mini-pumper is a small pumper mounted on a 4x4 pickup truck or similar light truck chassis, it went to the end of the bridge, not on the bridge. This bridge used to carry many passenger trains across it up until 1958 when the B&O Royal Blue was discontinued up to New Jersey across from New York. I have personally ridden over this bridge many times, mostly on excursion trains including the Chessie Steam Special with ex-Reading 2101, the Chessie Steam Safety Express with ex-C&O 614, and various other diesel pulled excursion trips. It's a great view of the mighty Susquehanna River from high up on that bridge. The 2 water cannons (monitors) can put out 1,250 gpm apiece at full output. Date: 08/10/19 12:21 Re: Fire on CSX bridge over Susquehanna River Author: Lackawanna484 Thank you. Great pictures
