Local TV station reporting train accident with one crew member injured and two roads closed.
Possibly northbound meeting a southbound and northbound didn’t get stopped in time and ran into southbound entering double track.

I’m at Marion and I did hear some chatter about a derailment but didn’t hear where
Thanks for the update

No roads blocked or trains on south side of Carey at the split.

My brother lives in Carey, so I asked him to to check out the situation.  The derailment is north of Carey near where the double track goes to single track.  Clean up crews are on scene and from his photos he sent I could count about six cars off the track.  There may be more, but he could only get so close.

Where is the usual "expert" synopsis by Mr. Patch?   Too close to home?

Obvious question: PTC on this line?

Hope the one injured crew member recovers well...

It would be bad form for me to scoop the newspaper's coverage, but I certainly recommend clicking that link. The sheriff's report included stuff CSX wouldn't talk about.

That's an excellent piece of railroad journalism in the Toledo Blade.

Sounds like a sleepy crew nodded off and missed the signal.  It is very hard to stay awake at 5:15 a.m.  In the 1960s we would smoke cigars; take off our shoes; stick our heads out the window (in all weather); etc.  Anything to stay awake.

Hearing the conductor wasn’t in the engine at the time of impact.

A very well written story, a nice change from the norm..

I like this line :

“ Under normal operations, one of the trains would have waited there for the other to pass.”
