Wouldn't be surprised to see a poured concrete Jersey Barrier put at the road side of that signal.

What's interesting here is that the signals in the upper photo are not the original Reading searchlights or tri-lights; they were put there only a few years ago by NS then torn down again for PTC.  Same thing at many other RDG and PRR locations, Cove for example.

Nice comparison, it can be amazing how things can change in such a short time. The speed limit has remained 40mph on the road but it looks like the farm in the first photo is giving way to a housing development.

That’s not housing, it’s a monstrosity of a warehouse going up. The entire area has been changed over the past ten years from rolling fields to warehouses. With that comes increased truck and auto traffic beating up local roads and seriously cutting into the ability to chase a train along the west end of the Reading line.
