Freight Train Service – CSXT reports very minor damage to its eastern NC rail corridors. CSXT are clearing downed trees on the Wilmington Sub Division east of Lumberton, and on the W&W Sub Division between Contentnea and Wallace. CSXT anticipates that the restoration of crossing signal devices in its four eastern NC sub divisions will be completed this afternoon. CSXT anticipates freight service on all four sub divisions will be restored this evening or early Saturday morning. The barrier over CSXT’s track in Lumberton was removed this morning after receiving concurrence from the City of Lumberton. All other CSXT freight service in NC is operating normally today.

Norfolk Southern reports minor damage to its eastern NC rail corridors. NS has removed downed trees and is now in the process of restoring crossing signal devices to full operation. NS will complete all of its eastern NC storm recovery efforts today. Normal freight service will be restored on NS eastern lines late tonight. All other NS freight service in NC is operating normally today.

As of this time this report was prepared only one eastern NC short line railroad has reported in, that being the Carolina Coastal RR (CLNA) that operates multiple rail corridors in central eastern NC and at the Morehead City Port. The CLNA Belhaven Branch is flooded with trees down. Inspections will proceed when the flood water recedes and conditions are safe. The CLNA hopes to restore service on the Belhaven Branch on Monday or Tuesday. Plymouth – Chocowinity Corridor, inspections are underway and completed between Pinetown and Chocowinity. The large RR swing bridge over the Tar River is intact with no apparent damage. The Washington track and yard is flooded. Water will need to recede before inspections may safely proceed. Minor flooding occurred at the CLNA Plymouth Yard. Some trees are down. Inspections on the Plymouth line will continue tomorrow. The CLNA hopes to restore service on the Plymouth – Chocowinity Branch by Monday. The Chocowinity – Wilson Corridor has been inspected. There were numerous downed trees on the corridor which have been cleared. Greenville to Chocowinity is open for CSXT to operate its phosphate train over to Lee Creek. There is a small washout at MP NS156 which will be repaired over the weekend. Debris under several bridges will also be removed this weekend. The Wilson Yard flooded but the water is receding with no apparent issues. The CLNA hopes to have this corridor open for business on Monday. Wilson – Raleigh have not yet inspected but know there are several trees down. The CLNA hopes to have this corridor open for business on Monday. Rocky Mount – Nashville to be inspected tonight but the CLNA does not expect any significant issues on this corridor. Morehead City Port the Port Police report no significant flooding. The CLNA anticipates its port operations will return to normal on Monday.

The barrier over the CSX track at Lumberton was very controversial. How did it make out?

Didn't hear anything about it this time. The Lumber River remained a few feet below flood stage.
