Eastern Railroad Discussion > B&O Alco Hits A CarDate: 09/14/19 17:46 B&O Alco Hits A Car Author: Mastadon The weather wasn't the greatest, but had the sun been out everything would have been backlit. Under controlled circumstances, The B&O Museum hosted a Train Vs Car demonstration during their First Responders Day on Saturday, September 14th. CSX provided their recently released ES44AH 3194 and many area fire and police agencies were present providing displays of equipment.
One of the highlights was when a vehicle was placed on the tracks and hit by former Octoraro Railway No.3, an Alco S2 built as Baltimore and Ohio 519 and later renumbered to 9063. The S2 was pushed by Chessie System GP38 3802 and hit the car at 10mph, pushing the car several hundred feet down the tracks. Once the dust settled, the locomotives reversed leaving the damaged vehicle and there was an extraction demonstration by Baltimore City Fire Department Squad 26. The B&O Museum is now under new management, and there will be many improvements on the horizon with renewed cooperation and support from CSX. Don Kalkman Timonium, MD Edited 2 time(s). My hope for sure is that the new management and CSX will actually start at least cosmetically fixing up and painting all the rusting passenger cars and the American Freedom Train Steam Locomotive, Reading 2101, and also allow volunteers interested in helping to come down there and work on the equipment.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a poor use of museum equipment? Equipment that should be undergoing restoration/preservation? /Ted Date: 09/16/19 15:39 Re: B&O Alco Hits A Car Author: wabash2800 Looks like one of the steps on the diesel was knocked out of alignment...
