NS Fort Royal line question
Author: GBW309

I have an extended vacation in October and was hoping to shoot some of the N&W CPL signals while they are still around.  I saw a video on Y Tube on the N&W Fort Royal line ( he referred to it as the "H" line) and it appears there are a few CPL's still in use on this line?   I was wondering if anyone had an information on train density or good locations.  I was also thinking about shooting the ex C&O in the area.  It sounds like those iconic C&O signals are all replaced now?   Thanks for any information.

Believe you are referring to the former N&W line that goes through Front Royal, Virginia?  Roanoke to Hagerstown, MD.

CPL signals remain at *most* control points guarding the ends of passing sidings between Front Royal and Roanoke, while all of the intermediates are newer installations. Traffic is 201/202, 15T/16T and one or 2 coal trains in each direction per 24 hrs plus locals. 201/202 tend to be the most consistent and typically meet around Shenandoah near dawn.

Symbol update:  16T now terminates at Roanoke.  18T is now Roanoke - Enola.
