Seems I recall that one is somewhat higher than the other and leaves a gap for the superior track/train flange..... or something like that.

Below are pictures of a similar diamond at Riverton Jct. VA, just north of Front Royal. Here the NS B-Line crosses the NS H-Line.

This allows the higher speed line to have no gaps in their rail for the flanges of the underdog's trains. Much less maintanence and much quieter.

Both directions are high speed and both directions ride on the flanges. I was very suprised to see this. Never saw these out west. I think they are also at Deshler as I wondered why no banging? First observance was CSX NS crossing at Attica Jct, OH.
