As to a "split up," maybe Vermont Rail System would get the Newport, VT to Brookport, QC section with trackage rights to Farnham? Date: 10/09/19 19:16 Re: CMQ Sold Author: Northern If the network is broken up, one could see one of Irving's railroads acquiring the Farnham to Brownville segment to have single line to CP outside of Montreal. Springfield Terminal could acquire the Searsport to Brownville line to connect with Irving lines and get around their out of service line between Bangor and Mattawamkeag. VTR may want to extend north of Newport, however, they may be hesitant to running a railroad in Canada with French speaking crews and customs inspections to manage. Probably a distant possibility, CP could also consider the entire main line to Saint John to get another port on the eastern seaboard but that would be dependant on arrangements to acquire or lease the Eastern Maine Railway and the New Brunswick Southern from Irving east of Brownville.
Date: 10/09/19 19:59 Re: CMQ Sold Author: CPR_4000 I guess it would make sense for Irving to acquire it to Farnham or Montreal, but I'd be really surprised if CP wanted to take it back. They're only running Jobs 1 and 2 three times a week, aren't they? Or is it daily now?

I agree, these shortlines/regionals exist because CP no longer cared to run to New Brunswick. I don't see how that would have changed. As for Fortress selling the CMQ property, I had heard they were interested in doing so, but the "grapevine" does not mean to me that it has actually happened. Edited 1 time(s). That might be incentive for CP to re-consider their position regarding their former lines to the Maritimes. |
