Hadn't heard about that.  But likely more at Roanoke before the end of the year, after the furloughs earlier this year, and maybe elsewhere on NS.

Have now heard that also today 7 at Portsmouth and 11 in Bellevue were furloughed.

Depressing. All of it. Good luck and best wishes to the folks who were furloughed, and hope that you all land on your feet in a good way. I have been where you are.

Cutting seems to be one of the two things Mike Farrell does best. The other is “cooking” his service metrics.

Why are they putting in new switches on the S Line-(Linwood-AshevilleNC)on a line that only sees one train each way plus a couple locals?  They took most of the traffic off this line a few years ago.  It's more efficient running the long way around through Roanoke.

These corporations always fire people just before the holidays. Heartless bastards!

Sounds like the layoffs were system wide, and there is speculation about future furloughs.

Yes.  If you read posts from two months ago, many recent announcements confirm speculation / rumors.

One common thread is outsourcing some shop work to contractors, and selling some facilities to Caterpiller or Amtrak, etc.  But, based on the posts, it does seem like there are a lot of high level folks and visitors visiting places where they are rarely seen.
