Eastern Railroad Discussion > Interesting Finds in Columbia, SC -- ex-SNC/WC 50 footersDate: 11/07/19 10:50 Interesting Finds in Columbia, SC -- ex-SNC/WC 50 footers Author: BanJoe A buddy and I went by the Columbia, SC NS yard yesterday to shoot some box cars. There is a public road that goes down past the yard and they always have some interesting cars that are easy to shoot with our DSLRs. When we pulled onto Andrews Road yesterday, it first looked like we were out of luck with interesting cars. There was not much in the yard at all. But then we realized there was a yard crew that we could not see and in a minute, they started moving more cars into view. There was a cut of eight box cars with obvious Wisconsin Central heritage but SNC marks. I looked up the marks when I got home and they belong(ed) to the Saratoga & North Creek Railway. The Wikipedia page tells me the railroad has shut down. A web site advertising their passenger excursions promises that the 2016 Schedule is coming soon! The further I got down in the Wiki page, the more my memory was shaken. This was the Iowa Pacific line that raised the ire of the public by storing cars on their tracks in the woods.
Anyway, would the ownership revert to another IP road or to Ioaw Pacific themselves? Any idea where they are in Columbia? Have they been sold? Car is most likely in a car hire utilization lease where Golden Triangle pay nothing for the car and CAI gets all the car hire when the car is out running around. GTRA serves an International Paper mill in Trinity MS, so chances are car is in paper service. Saratoga and North Creek has nothing to do with car other than they rent out their mark to CAI.

They come from the old Evergreen paper mill in Canton, NC on the Blue Ridge Southern. Not sure where they go to but the guy who told me this said they go to either Columbia or Charleston.
