D&H Doings Today
Author: train1275

Gloomy dark day in Upstate New York today, November 10, 2019.

1. Train 22K with NS 4271 and 3612 passes the beaver swamp at Leonard Road between Cooperstown Jct. and Maryland, NY

2. Then we catch him at Brooker Hollow north of East Worcester, NY

3. And now coming through Esperance with the red lights off the signals reflecting on the black carbodies.

At Delanson the 205 finally comes in as the 22K has been waiting like something over an hour for him and blocking Gage Road. Power on 205 is NS 4082, 9729 and 9950.

Here is the meet between 22K at left and 205 at right.

Final shot of the day at 4:30PM is the 205 passing "OG" at Pony Farm overpass on the west end of Oneonta.  There just wasn't enough light to work with today and trains were kind of bottled up. Passed on the 11R at Richmondville for the 22K, and 30T who knows where he might have been. He's still out there somewhere and 16R is only approaching Otego at 5:35pm and it is full on dark.

As usual, nice coverage of the D&H. What radio frequency is used on the Binghamton-Mechanicville line? Thanks.

Great photos.  What kind of train frequency is on the old D&H now and what is the overall speed limit on the line?  I can remember years ago watching CP trains running on the Freight Main Line at 60 MPH on portions of the line.  Surprised jointed track still exists between CPF-499 and CPF-503.

22K, 23K, 205, 206 are the intermodals between Binghamton and Mechanicville.

16R and 11R the Pan Am connection - East Binghamton to Mechanicville (general freight)

30T & 31T East Binghamton - Saratoga (general freight)

Speeds are nominally 40 but due to hills and such average around thirty. Some places are easy to chase and others not so easy when getting hung up on 30mph speed zones on Route 7. Overall very doable with a little planning and forethought. Add in meets and wait times and local switching by the merchandise freights and sometimes the actual over the road times can be very slow.

Nice series. Nice catch at Brooker Hollow.
