Current status of CSX (B&O) line east from St. Louis
Author: rbx551985

I have heard that the recently mothballed (for a few years) CSX (ex-B&O) line east from St. Louis toward Valparaiso, IN. is back in service .... is this true, and can we presume, if so, that CSX might keep it in service this time?  Are lineside customers able to ship/receive now as well, or is it just used as a thru-route to unclog the overall RR network(s)?

I believe it’s still out of service.

It's out of service from Flora,IL to Caseyville,IL. West of Caseyville to CP Rose Lake sees sporadic use for train staging and west of CP Rose Lake thru Cone yard to TRRA Q tower sees daily use by UP runthroughs
MNLIN/Q374;MCXNL/Q373;and ACXNP/Q206 also sporadic ballast trains. These actually run under a Zxxx symbol while on CSX trackage, but only the IB dispatcher ever calls them that

P.S. the town in Indiana is Vincenes

As stated, Caseyville to Flora is out of service, with diamonds removed at a couple locations. CSX applied for and was granted by the STB a discontinuance of service for quite a bit of the oos trackage.

Flora to Washington IN sees a Vincennes based local plus occasion grain trains from Olney IL.

Washington to Loogootee IN is in service but is rarely used. Loogootee to Seymour IN only sees a North Vernon IN based local.

Seymour to Cincinnati sees the North Vernon local as Far East as Butlerville IN, a Trautman OH based local from Queensgate to Aurora IN, CIND trackage rights train from North Bend OH to Lawrenceburg IN, and a yard job out of Queensgate that switches industries immediately west of downtown Cincinnati. Also, CSXT and CIND interchange auto rack trains via crossover from parallel CIND main at Wade OH, in Cincys west side.

Joining all the above are 2 to 5 daily trains running up LIRC from Louisville to Seymour then turning right into the B&O to Cincinnati.

I drove over the main street crossing an hour ago in Caseyville, stopboard is still up and rail is still cut out.
