A long frustrating weekend out wth the camera in spite of nice weather for November in Upstate New York

Saturday November 16, 2018

1. First off was NS 23K caught at Cooperstown Jct. with the 9682 leading as the train follows Schenevus Creek which will shortly lead both to the Susquehanna.

2. NS 9177, 9318 and 9950 are the power on Train 205 caught here at Richmondville wrapping around the rock cliffs climbing the hill out of Cobleskill.

3. Then to Waterford, NY where we see the Canal and the old D&H bridge crossing the Mohawk. Trains came off the bridge and entered street running here but I am not knowledgeable enough to understand the operation here. Beyond the bridge is the Hudson River.

4. Up the Mohawk just by Cohoes is the Falls of the Mohawk as it descends towards the Hudson.

5.  The main stem of the D&H from the Port of Albany (now CP Rail) crosses the Mohawk here parallel to Route 32 as we look in the opposite direction of the view above of the falls. Sadly no tains.

6. NS Train 22K which left Binghamton about 7:15 am is now sitting east of the Hudson at the Route 67 Crossing just over from Mechanicville at about 3pm. Power is 1077 and 1173.

Thanks for that series, looks like the leaf colors are long gone for this year.

7. Around 4pm or so the power from 22K is running light over the Hoosic River bridge at Schaghticoke, NY going I know not where or why. It was getting too dark and shadowy to do much more.

8. Caught the NS 206 arriving at Mechanicville with 9455, 9143 and 9690. While taking this shot somehow I missed two CP's D45 and D48 and NS 11R and I guess also NS 205. I have no explantion how.

9. Giving up on the action at Mechanicville that eluded the camera and off to Saratoga. Just in time to see the tail end of 930 (30T) leave. Hung about for the Amtrak and 252 but then went to Fort Edward and waited. Finally bored and up to Fort Ann. Amtrak Tracker had 69 still at Albany and so the thought was 252 was coming down from Whitehall until the Amtrak appeared out of the sun and blew the shot. After an eternity finally the 252 showed for a rather nondescrpit shot at Fort Ann with CP 8802, 8021 and Geep 2209. So getting close to 2pm and time to break for lunch at Battle Hill Brewing on the north side of town, a great place to grab a good bite to eat.

With no further prospect known to catch anything else a quick stop at Lake George to take in what once was in the past.

The D&H depot here still stands at the lake front and tour boats still ply the lake but you cannot get here by train anymore.

10. A view of Lake George at the boat landing across from the depot.

11. The old depot, now a souvenir shop.

12. The depot tower.

Actually, the depot looks better than it did on 06/01/1988. I don't know what it was being used for at this time, although I can see a "Kodak film sold here" sign. Too bad the "Delaware & Hudson Railroad Station" sign is now MIA.
