Thanksgiving shutdown?
Author: P

I may have missed any discussion of a shutdown for the holiday. Are the Class 1's doing anything of the sort? Have they in the past?

It is obvious to me that NS is not doing so as the Dayton District has been busy today.

The NS Reading line seems to be normal today as well.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I was watching the HSC cam earlier and it was busy. They are shipping yesterday's business. Expect a slowdown tomorrow and into the weekend.

The intermodals usually run a modified schedule as well.

Evenon the lowly Griffin, GA, district, both 186 and 180 ran this morning (another meet at Collier) and an unknown SB came through northside of Macon just after 5 a.m.  Sounded as if there were a DPU.

None of the major players shuts down for Thanksgiving any more, but traffic is reduced. The only day that still warrants a shutdown is Christmas, and even there the hours have gotten tighter over the years.

I got stopped at Smalley Rd on the way to my mom's house this morning.

Back in 1998 Conrail shut down the then Cincinnati Line on Thanksgiving Day to replace the bridge across Arbor Rd on the east end of Moraine Yard. Do any railways still do that kind of thing on Thanksgiving Day, take a line out of service for a major structure replacement?

Oh, why it's only a few miles from the house...

My bad, it's in Lockland Ohio. This is on the Dayton District but railroad west of CP 248 so it could be a train off the New Castle District as well or possibly even a CSX on directional running. Don't know as the somebody left the scanner on and the battery was dead when I pulled it out to hear them call signals to identify the train. It was kind of a crappy picture, but here are two more crappier ones that were a complete surprise at the end of the train.

NS Chicago Line ran as normal, as did the CSX Toledo Sub.  Listened in last night on the scanner radio app off my cell.
