Wintry Sunday in Upstate New York

1. NS 11R crosses the Susquehanna south of Oneonta. This bridge has been a work project for over a year. Today's power is NS 7247 and 4209.

2. 11R passes through Unadilla, NY and is about to duck under NYS Route 7.

3. A few more miles the other side of Bainbridge past the abandoned Blue Seal Feed Mill.

4. Train 205 is seen here crossing over Route 7 south of Afton, NY with NS 3651, 8170 and 8061.

5. Train 205 at Ninevah Junction. 

6. And 205's headlight is on the far side of the Belden Hill Tunnel. This was the tunnel involved in the railroad war between the Erie and the Albany & Susquehanna in August 1869 with the movie Satatoga Trunk based on those actual events.

7. 205 out into the daylight. The tunnel clearances were widened and heightened in 1985 and doors added.

8. and coming up towards the grade crossing.

9. Sliding down the hill near Sanataria Springs along Route 7.

* Note the left side ditch light is out and later after leaving Binghamton for Buffalo it will be replaced.

10. NS 205 coming down Belden Hill at MP 608 - Port Crane, NY heading for the final lap into Binghamton. The snow squall has picked up with big swirling flakes.

11. Out on "The Tier", ex EL main from Binghamton to Buffalo, we find 23K making fast tracks for Buffalo. It is windy, frosty and frigid as he roars past at Endwell, NY just west of Binghamton and Johnson City.

12. Not long after, the 205 is hot on his heals. This is the 205 we followed down the D&H and the burned out left side ditch light has been replaced. Endwell, NY.

13. Back up on the D&H is the ever trusty 16R with nearly new rebuild #1842 (November 2019 - ex NS 2545) and NS 9528 crossing over NYS Route 79 at Harpursville, NY.

14. Up at Afton is NS 9873 patiently waiting on 30T for the 16R to come north. The view looks down the historic Susquehanna Valley.

15. After the 16R passes 30T gets underway and crosses the Harpursville High Bridge with NS 9873, 4172 and 7529 on the way to Binghamton with another big snowflake squall underway.
