Eastern Railroad Discussion > Snowy Shortline, big Power

After getting an inch or so of snow in Decatur IL on Saturday, I had to go out to get some photos of the Decatur & Eastern Illinois road train on Sunday morning. Hearing the horn in the distance as I got ready this morning gave me time to set up at the end of the driveway to catch the train power up the hill in Long Creek (just east of Decatur). 

1&2. Today's train had an SD40 rebuild in front of two geeps and 30 cars. Engineer Elvin had his flag flying as the train thundered past me.

3. Heading east to LaPlace, IL I caught the train passing the massive grain elevator as the sun was poking out from behind the clouds.

With a high in the 30s and snow on the ground, it made for a great day for photos.

Seems strange for Sunday's on a shortline. They run all week or as needed?

 yes 7 days a week , hence them winning buisness back that CSX ran off

They run 7 days a week, however, weekends the train only travels one direction each day instead of round trip. Normally West to Decatur on Saturday, and East to Paris on Sunday.
