Former NYC Chicago East Mainline Action
Author: scraphauler

Central Railroad Company of Indiana (a G&W Line) daily Honda turn hustles westbound through New Point Indiana with the daily assortment of the auto racks for Honda at Greensburg IN, shown here on a blustry Sunday 1/19/20.  Power assigned to this job last few weeks has been Ohio Central 4030 and Indiana & Ohio 4085, both SD40-2s.   This is the former New York Central Chicago East mainline between Cincinnati OH and Indianapolis IN, once host of the NYC's premier James Whitcomb Riley.  Honda at Greensburg is the lines primary customer,  building the Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Insight, and CRV.

This line was brought back from death for this traffic about 15 years or so ago...is there any traffic between Greensburg and Shelbyville? Last time I was up that way there were trees growing in the ROW.

Here's picture of MP 70 from this past summer, 2 miles west of Honda Plant (toward Shelbyville).  Pretty self explanatory.   MP 70 to MP 80, while tracks are still there, is slowly being reclaimed by Mother Nature.  From Honda Plant to MP 70, line is maintained as headroom/overflow storage for Honda/general storage.

Wow. Thanks for the photo.  That's sad seeing this former high speed main reduced to this state.
