Yesterday's CSX W082 dropping ballast on the Jesup Subdivision.  Ballast cars being remotely controlled by a Herzog operator.

Rather dramatic..............excellent video.  MODERN railroading.

        Last time I watched one of Herzog's ballast trains, it was programed through GPS to know when to dump, and when to shut off for road crossings. As I was told. I doubt a man running doors and car numbers on a remote unit could keep up at this pace.

The train left Waycross and went into the Braganza Siding.  The conductor called up the Dispatcher and told them they were waiting for the Herzog operator to show up before they could leave the siding and start work.  So I'm pretty sure there was a Herzog operator on board.

Interesting look at that operation. 

The herzog operator is in the trailing locomotive with a laptop. Modern railroading.

Our shop in Olathe KS did much work for them including the hydraulic gates on the hoppers. Herzog was gung ho on networking,
we did all manner of hy-rail cranes and other equipment with networked actuators.
