Eastern Railroad Discussion > Another question on Mooresville, NC train actionDate: 02/04/20 04:23 Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: dozerman Upon doing some Google maps viewing of the area, there is a wye known as Yadkin Junction. What trains would I expect to see heading west and coming east off of this line if any?
Also, what RR freq would I need for this area Thanks again for all your help Posted from Android Date: 02/04/20 05:10 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: florida581 dozerman Wrote:

Also, close to Mooresville is Barber. Locals P23, P25, and P62 are based out of there. Andrew Date: 02/04/20 06:09 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: dozerman Thanks!
Date: 02/04/20 10:29 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: DirtyShirt Yadkin Junction is not the wye where the S Line splits from the mainline in Salisbury. It is actually located about a mile to the south where the N Line splits off to the southeast toward Albemarle. The N Line is used Monday through Friday by the P92 local.
Radio frequencies are as follows: Mooresville/Barber/Statesville areas - AAR 048 and AAR 020 Linwood South - AAR 056 and AAR 080 Linwood North - AAR 053 and AAR 027 Date: 02/04/20 10:50 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: florida581 DirtyShirt Wrote:

And speaking of the "S Line" and "N Line", where do they get those names? I'm figuring it's derived from the mileposts letters? Andrew Date: 02/05/20 03:54 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: DirtyShirt Yes, the name is from the letter that is the milepost prefix. Some lines have a letter suffix instead of a prefix like the line from Bristol, VA west toward Bulls Gap, TN which has an A after the milepost numbers. I'm not sure where the letter designations originated, but I believe they have existed since the Southern RR days.
Date: 02/05/20 04:15 Re: Another question on Mooresville, NC train action Author: Jimbo The S line runs from Morristown on the A line, near Knoxville, through Asheville to Salisbury on the main line (no prefix). I always thought the S stood for Salisbury. The letter designations definitely go back to Southern Railway days.
The A line goes from Bristol through Knoxville to Chattanooga and I believe to Memphis. It was probably only second to the main line in length or importance, not counting the CNO&TP which was "separate." Some ex-SOU old heads told me, "While the Washington-Atlanta Mainline recieved all the fame and attention, the CNO&TP was making all the money."
