2nd generation EMDs on NS/CSX locals
Author: bigsavage

Like many other photographers of a certain age,to me the modern mainline railroad scene can be seen as rather bland and sterile.
However, on Monday, 2/24/20, I ran across 2 locals on the area rail lines that took me back to a younger age.

After some business in Greencastle,PA. the scanner chatter indicated that local H34 was coming north (RR direction east) up NS's Lurgan line.
This location is in town, just south of CP62.
The SD40-2 could be heard coming from quite a distance, not sure how far this job ventures towards Harrisburg. Another SD brought up the rear.

On the way home through Highfield,MD. I spied the CSX Hagerstown-Hanover, PA. turn setting out cars for the Maryland Midland.
After switching out 3 covered hoppers to be picked up on the return trip, the 2 GP40-2s and a GP38-2 trundled east to their next stop.

All trackage in Highfield is former Western Maryland Rwy.
I have not seen 4-axle EMDs on this job in a long time.

What a nice change of pace.  You had good luck with the timing of catching both moves too.

Those standard cabs sure look great.
Thanks for posting your nice series.

H34/K80 goes as far as Shippensburg, Pa.
