Lynchburg - Alexandria road local pair, K95 and K99, run daily.  I believe most of their train is picked up / set out at Manassas en route.  K87 is the Alexandria switcher.

There is an occasional Vulcan rock train to and from a quarry on a spur near Calverton, VA.  This image shows a southbound empty at the Godwin Dr. crossing in Manassas.

Has it really been almost 5 years since I stood along the deadend street to see N&W611?
And almost 30 years since N&W1218 went around the wye on a slightly different alignment?

Alexandria, Va is pretty much a CSX show, in general. All Amtrak trains that head south of DC as well as VRE trains stop at the beautiful station along the edge of downtown which has been a popular railfan spot forever. I have railfanned there several times for just over a decade. I don't think NS runs very much in Alexandria and west to Manassas. I have a trip planned to DC in May and it's possible that I may go to photograph a train or two crossing the high trestle in Accotink Park. Are there any daytime freights that run between Manassas and Alexandria and reverse?

Very sharp photos!  What kind of camera is on the drone?

Thanks, Norm

How does Vulcan Materials load the grave into the hopper cars ?.  No loader in the picture goes over the track.

Thanks for the tech details!  Ah, I should have guessed that it was higher than a drone!

Many rock and coal loading is done with tired front loaders. Just scoop it up and dump.

Has there been any discussion of VRE running a train towards Front Royal?

Lots of discussion and research relative to the viability of commuter rail to Haymarket on the B-Line.  Consultants opined that the effort was significantly unaffordable and the VRE Board agreed.  Now a new Democratic Board of Supervisors has been seated and another feasibility study may be in the future.  We'll see.

In the earlier proposal didn't NS require a second track?

Thanks for the great pictures!

Yes Jimbo.  I believe that was an NS requirement.
