Not sure if everybody can read it a this resolution, but it says "Freight" and underneath it NYWS&B, Both in fancy, fancy script.
That was a standard feature of West Shore stations. Not very many examples are still around, and still readable. When I last saw the Saugerties freight station during October 2017, a few of the more-complicated cutouts in the wood had a piece missing.
