Sugar River Shove MA&N
Author: ut-1

This video offers highlights of Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern's March 26th run on the road's Utica-Lyons Falls NY line.

The opening scene features MA&N's Alcos Nos. 2453, 2456 & 805 leading their 44-car train over the Mohawk River, Utica.

The first three cars are empty bulkhead flats consigned to a customer in Boonville, 33 miles north of Utica. The remaining 41 cars, all tank cars, will be stored north of Boonville.

We next glimpse the train as it passes just west of NYS Rts.12/28 in Remsen.

After a series of switching maneuvers in Boonville wherein the three bulkhead flats are spotted and a load pulled out, the train moves on with No. 805 only up front. After two miles, No. 805 is placed in a siding by the old NY Central Boonville station and the other Alcos power the shove.

The video captures the shove move on the bridge over the Sugar River (town of Leyden, Lewis County) and, on return south, views are offered of the train passing by the same spot in Remsen as earlier shown and, finally, as the short freight passes through Trenton.

Thanks for posting this! Used to make the run from Watertown to SUNY Utica along this route back in the early 90's when it was still part of Conrail and the MA&N was just about coming into existence up in Carthage. Sad to see all the online traffickers pretty much gone now.
