Boeing suspends SC 787 production

Boeing has suspended construction of its 787 model airplane in South Carolina. The plant is served by both CSX and NS, I believe.

Correct. NS runs along the north edge of the airport, and way back in time there was a spur around the north end of the runway and back down to the military area just west of the runways. But that's not where Boeing is. I found a topo map from 1945 showing spurs from Southern (the area called Goodrich) and from ACL Bennett Yard to the approximately vicinity of where Boeing built, but those spurs are not shown on a topo map of 1959.

It's conceivable that parts and materials from the west coast are being sent to Charleston on intermodal trains and then trucked into the Boeing plant.
