Eastern Railroad Discussion > Summer FridayDate: 06/26/20 19:22 Summer Friday Author: californiarails While work from home extends longer than anticipated, my office has continued a policy of "Summer Fridays" where we are allowed to take a long weekend for half of the time in the summer. With some extra time off, I planned to enjoy the great weather and spend some time railfanning. I set off on my bike riding from upper Manhattan and across the GWB to New Jersey to see some familiar sights and to check some spots off my list.
Photo 1: Amtrak 49 with P32DC-AM 713 and 710 in the lead as seen from the George Washington Bridge bike path, overlooking of the Empire Corridor and lower Manhattan in the distance. It's rare to catch doubleheading P32DC-AMs in this territory, and even more rare to see them back to back. Photo 2: New York Susquehanna & Western SD60 #3810 leads another SD60 with the SU-99 as it begins its tri-weekly journey in Bogota towards Binghampton. Photo 3: CNJ painted GP40PH-2 #4109 leads NJ Transit Train 0079 through the S-curve in Garfield towards Port Jervis. While this heritage unit has been operating in CNJ paint since last December, this was my first time tracking it down. Thanks for looking. Have a great weekend, all. I always liked the Susie Q paint, and fondly remember seeing them in the late 80’s when their power showed up on D&H freights down here in eastern PA. I am a fan of "big views" like that, and with the Hudson and New York skyline for a backdrop, they don't get much better. Thanks for sharing your day off and these fine images with us.
