Well, sorta ....... Here, eastbound Amtrak P030 slides down Sand Patch grade a couple of miles east of Glencoe, PA, on June 25. The two engine, six car consist is a welcome sign compared to the one engine, four car "bobtail" ..... although the "Sightseer Lounge" is still missing.  Does this indicate that Amtrak is seeing more passengers?

Amtrak IS seeing more passengers, the data shows it, and the long distance trains, after maintaining more business than anything else during the worst of the Coronadoldrums, are leading the way again as business picks up. In May, the long distance trains had higher gains and generated more revenue than all the rest of Amtrak COMBINED.

Yup.  Time to cut back service, just in time for increased ridership.   The logic of this move escapes me.

You need more cars to maintain distancing requirements but business is picking up as people are deathly afraid to fly.

Actually I have considerably more confidence in Delta's sanitizing procedures than do I in Amtrak's.  Masks are mandated on board (now enforced), middle seats are not sold, and in a couple hours it's all over.  It's more fun to take the train, but fun is not a priority right now.

i would still be very concerned if the travel of amtrak trains involves going to areas of coronavirus surges. Florida has a nightmare of a virus surge and amtrak’s 98, 92, 91, 97 and the amtrak auto trains run to florida. I hope people will be careful going down there. Florida has one of the worst coronavirus problems down there at this time

All the sanitizing in the world doesn't matter if a nearby person coughs or sneezes without a mask.  The airlines can make travel safer, but not safe.  Train travel is probably an order of magnitude safer than air travel.

Perhaps "it's all over" is not the best phrase when dealing with a deadly virus.

I assume the "couple of hours" doesn't include the time spent at terminals with mandatory check ins?
And those "couple of hours" are in a tube with no outside air.

And no, there is no guarantee that every middle seat will be empty on every flight.
The airlines are not perfect.
