4th of Juy Action in D&H Land

A nice 4th here in Upstate NY but the sun and clouds were very fickle making pictures a challenge.

1. 11R comes south at Colliersville with 9914 and 4073 as power.

2. The going away view at Colliersville north of Oneonta.

3. Now the sun has gone under heavy clouds as 11R comes over the Susquehanna River and is about to  duck under Route 7 south below Sidney.

4. The 11R pops out of the tunnel on top of Belden Hill. Now the sun is out and flamming !

5. Slipping down the hill heading for Binghamton and a meet with 16R, the 11R is seen here at Port Crane about to hit the detector and pass the site of the old depot.

6. With 11R in, the 16R comes out and is caught here at Belden on the down side of the hill after coming through the tunnel. At the moment it is a beautiful 4th of July day! Power on 16R is just NS 9484 and the Pan Am 3402.

7. Up the line at Afton the 30T is busy switching the McDowell-Walker feed mill while 16R cools its' heels. 30T has CN 5625 and NS 1139 as power today.

8. A close look at the bright orange nose of CN 5625 (SD70I)

9. Those damn clouds, black, gray, white and blue sky.

10. The engineer of 30T wishes us and the crew of 16R a "Happy 4th" and is off to Binghamton.

11. Now it's 16R's turn to take the main north and passes the Afton McDowell-Walker feed mill, a mainstay of the agricultural economy of Upstate New York.

12. 16R is caught here approaching Bainbridge splitting the masts of two former signals. Up on the pole line there are still some nice insulators.

The sun is now blazing and harsh at Otego for one last look before firing up the BBQ grill.

Going away view, the Pan Am unit is wearing Old Glory, a fitting tribute to the day 244 years ago when we became an independent nation and a fitting end of our day watching trains.
