Monday's NS 13R with the 9-1-1 First Responders engine
Author: sscannella

NS ran it's Enola, PA to Columbia, SC 13R out of Enola a little later than normal Monday morning, with quite a mix of power - 7718, 9634, mother/slug set 915, 3009, Honoring First Responders unit 911 (or 9-1-1 as some insist), SD60E 6999, GP60 7131, and 9926 and 7586 as mid-train DPUs.

The first shot here sees the 13R's lead power crossing the Susquehanna Rover on Rockville Bridge, then we see the head end clear of the east end of CP-ROCKVILLE interlocking followed by the GP40/slug set.

Next we see the 9-1-1, a going away shot of the head end power from the other side of the Linglestown Rd. (PA Rt 39) bridge, and then a video from the overpass of the entire train.

The DPUs from the Linglestown Rd overpass.  After coming out of the west end of Enola and crossing over the Susquehanna River on Rockville Bridge, the routing takes it on about a 4.5 mile journey east through Harrisburg on the former PRR main line, where it passes by the Amtrak station at CP-PAXTON, and hangs a right up the connector to the Lurgan Line, the former Reading main to Hagerstown, Maryland.

So we then we made it down to the Shipoke section of Harrisburg where we then see it crossing over the Susquehanna River at CP-FRONT STREET on the Lurgan, including a close-up of the First Responder's unit.

The 13R met a 747 empty coal train out of North Carolina on the bridge.  The location also gave me an opportunity to photograph the SD60E and GP60, as well as the DPUs.  Not a bad way to start a Monday morning.

This Saturday, 7/11/20, will mark 5 years since the #911 units most noted public appearance.
On 7/11/2015, NS parked the #911 on the Reading bridge with a short intermodal consist in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Pump Primers (PPP) antique fire engine muster.
Thousands of people showed up and the engine stayed on site for about 5 hours. At one point, the EMD engaged a few of the fire engines on display in a spirited horn contest.
Unfortunately the muster this year has been canceled due to the pandemic panic.

Perhaps one of these days they won't have to cross the Susquehanna 2 times. 1st at Rockville out the west end of Enola then the old RDG Bridge on the south end of HBG. Know there was talk years ago about building a connecting track at the south end of the RDG bridge in Lemoyne to do so, but not completely sure what happened to that?   Nice shots. Really like the Linglestown Rd one, both looking west and then east.  Ben
