Eastern Railroad Discussion > Hot Day on the SMS in MorrisvilleDate: 07/29/20 13:53 Hot Day on the SMS in Morrisville Author: PennRailVideos July 29th, 2020.
On my way home from work, I stopped by Morrisville, PA to see what the SMS Lines crew would be up to. This day would be a relatively busy one. Baldwin "S-12" switcher #301 has been new in Morrisville this year, with DS4-4-750 #102 a bit tired these days. Baldwin S-12 #301 was built in 1953 and was BLW Demonstrator #1200. That same year it was sold to the Rock Island Railroad as their #758. After some shifting in the morning and an interchange run, the crew shifts out Blue Ridge Lumber as the SILVI cement plant looms behind the tree line. One of the industries SMS worked this day allowed for the opportunity to photograph the engine facing forward for a few shots. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/29/20 13:58 by PennRailVideos. Don't get me wrong, modern stuff is fine too but the fact that these are working in everyday freight service and not museum pieces makes it all the more unique. And it's hard to beat that set of grills on the front!
Doing another shift of one of the other lumber products customers, I finally got a view of the engineer's side in good light. Thanks to the adroit hogger and his ground pounding mate for putting up with me for a couple hours today. - Adam C. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/29/20 13:58 by PennRailVideos.
