I wish the BIP well.  Perhaps they can recover all the loose car railroading that CSX did not want.

I have not researched the heritage of these units but the 178 looks to be originally a high nose unit set up for long hood forward (bell on the long hood end) and the 478 was originally a dual control locomotive (originally Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Lines maybe?) as it has the front of the cab extending forward beyond the normal line. It's always nice to see the power painted so sharp when a new line launches. Hopefully the rest of their operation is as well funded as their power investment and they have plenty of sharp and energetic employees to get off to a great start.

Sharp looking locos. That 278 has a rough first step on the engneer's side.
Thanks,

That's a really nice looking scheme. I wish them the best of luck.

WOW they are good looking units.  Is that bottom dark blue or black?

Fascinating number scheme.  Wonder why x78?  what's the story behind 78?  Always love shortline numbering.

Yeah, that paint scheme is not bad. But I'd put a logo on the front of the nose...

Edit: I see that woudn't work with the 278 with the headlight on the nose. But, again, not a bad paint schme.

Don't think the 478 was a PRSL unit.  PRSL's GP38's (not Dash-2's) were as plain jane as you could get aside from the dual control stand.  Also, no dynamic brake.

Penn Central did have GP-38-2's with dual control and dynamic brakes. 8154-8162. Ordered when Moore was CEO and he was ex Southern.  ----  Ken

They were single control, long hood forward.

U23B's 2750-2776 were sent up the same way.

That paint scheme (at least the colors) reminds me of some other railroad. What am I thinking of? Anyone else think the same? Was it a Canadian Road? Did the BA&P ever have colors like that?
